In a time when political polarization threatens the foundations of our republic, a new path forward is not only possible—it is necessary.
The Common Good Independents stand for a simple but powerful idea: that public service must be rooted in truth, accountability, and allegiance to the people—not to political parties or power brokers.
Thanks to modern technology, we now have the tools to move closer to a true democracy—one in which constituents can communicate directly with their representatives, share their views, and help shape policy in real time. In this new model, a representative serves not at the pleasure of a party leader or president, but at the direction of the people they were elected to represent.
The two-party system, once useful for organizing national debate, has become an obstacle to honest governance. Party loyalty too often overrides common sense, suppresses independent thought, and silences the will of the people. The Common Good Independents aim to change that.
We are not beholden to any party. We are accountable only to the Constitution and to our constituents.
We believe:
That truth and transparency must be the foundation of public trust;
That citizen engagement, not party ideology, should guide legislative decisions;
That public financing and oversight are essential to ending the corrupting influence of dark money;
And that ethical governance, backed by independent monitoring, must be the new standard for public office.
This is not a rebellion. It is a renewal—a return to the principle that government exists to serve the common good.
We are Common Good Independents—and we answer to the people.
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) the following commitments:
I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
I will uphold true faith and allegiance to the Constitution and to the people I represent.
I will communicate truthfully and transparently with my constituents at all times.
I will actively seek input from my constituents when considering legislation and will encourage them to propose ideas and initiatives that improve their lives and strengthen our communities.
I will uphold the highest standards of ethics in the performance of my duties and require the same from my staff.
I will disclose all meetings with, and requests made by, individuals or organizations not employed by the government.
I will not accept campaign contributions from undisclosed sources. I will fully disclose any attempts to influence legislation through financial contributions to both my constituents and the press.
I will advocate for reforms to campaign finance laws to prevent large donors and dark money groups from compromising the integrity of our democratic institutions.
I will reserve a position on my staff for an independent ethics officer appointed by the United States Office of Government Ethics. This officer will monitor compliance with the commitments outlined herein and provide regular reports to the public.
I make these commitments freely and without reservation, and I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office I seek, guided by integrity, accountability, and service to the public good.
